Primary 7

Mrs May has twenty-seven pupils in her Primary 7 class this year.

Sports - House Captains were elected before the Sports Afternoon. They encouraged everyone who took part to do their best and organised the P4 to P7 relay race which was the thrilling finale to the sports. The Cortachy Captains, Tamara and Morgan, collected the House Trophy on behalf of everyone in Cortachy House.

Following an exciting competition for the Southesk Sports Championship this year, the winners were announced at the end of the Sports Afternoon. From Easter to the morning of Sports Day six different events took place - standing long jump, high jump, long distance run, sprint, cricket ball throw and basket ball shoot. Points were awarded for each event resulting in Tamara being the winner for the girls with joint runners-up Caitlin and Megan. The boys' winner was Jordan and Kai was the runner-up. Throughout the competition and at the School Sports the sportsmanship was excellent. Everyone tried their best, had fun and cheered the efforts made by all. Follow this link to see some pictures.

P7 have had two visitors in the last few days. On Friday 5th February Ferryden's P7 pupils came to Southesk to join us in listening to Alex Johnston MSP talk about the changes we all need to make to achieve the targets set by the government to reduce our energy use. He also explained some of the different forms of energy generation, such as wind and hydro power. Mr Johnson gave us lots of interesting information which should help everyone on the Enterprise Event Day at Montrose Academy on Friday 19th February.

Shokk Kombat - P7 joined P5 in two taster sessions of Shokk Kombat. P6 had their own sessions. This was energetic fun giving everyone lots of exercise and anyone interested in doing more could go along to the Sports Centre to find out more. Here are some pictures of P7 in action.

At last we managed to have the final of the Boomerang Competition. A mixture of being really busy and the weather meant it had to be postponed several times. After all the amendments made to the boomerangs, following earlier test flights, everyone was pretty pleased at the way their boomerangs flew. If you click here you can see the winners and find out more about the competition.

On Friday 22nd January P7 held a Burns Supper and Scottish Country Dancing afternoon. Almost eighty guests, including P6 and members of staff, squeezed into the P7 classroom to enjoy haggis, neeps and tatties, shortbread and tablet, speeches, poems, music and fun. There were excellent performances and lots of hard-working helpers to ensure the event was a great success. Well done P7! After the feasting and entertainment everyone joined the rest of the school in the dancing.

Our Christmas party had a bit of a French theme but most of all there was food and fun. Follow this link to see some of the games.

Sophie is French and she has been coming to help us to learn to speak French with good pronunciation. She has also answered our questions and played games with us.
